Five mysteries that Rush will never solve

26 January 2013 @ 04:23 pm
The game is afoot!

There is a mystery for the crew to resolve. Individually or as a group, solve a dilemma that faces the crew. It can be in any time frame, ie, just arriving aboard Destiny, well into their voyage, on a planet or spaceship, on Novus, or after they have come out of stasis. Or maybe it's a mystery for someone yet to arrive on Icarus.

And mystery doesn't always have to apply to resolving a crime. It could be the mystery of why Dale Volker became an astrophysicist, why Rush has such an infinity toward math and music, what prompted Brody to build his stil (aside from boredom) why Lisa likes to "read" so much, or the attraction of Colonel Young and TJ. Or maybe the purple sweet potatoes developed rot and Darren Becker has to figure it out. Or what happened to those clothes that Colonel Young found on that planet in Blockade - whose where they and what happened to them?

If you want to make a comic strip type of story, way cool. Written word is good too. Spread your imaginative wings.

This challenge is due Monday, February 11th in your time zone.

Five flavors Dr. Inman came up with for the daily protein slop

OK, so I didn't write these for this challenge, but they are such a perfect fit I simply have to post them!

A few years ago teamuniverse on  stargateland created files of the fictional world "Navhic". The entire folder, brilliantly created by  mercscilla , can be found here. It was the winning entry, and it deserves to be shared with all SGU fans out there!

I contributed a number of Purple Sweet Potato files, among them RECIPES (part 1 and part 2) by Darren Becker, and HOOCH by Adam Brody.

(And now I'll come up with something original as well.)

The first thing we think of when we see or hear the word recipe is food. A list of instructions for the preparation of a culinary delight.

However, that alone is not the entire definition of recipe. It can also be a means to an end result. A list of instructions for making something - anything.

"Recipes, Becker. For the love of God, recipes." Colonel Young had it right, that nasty protein paste would erode moral as fast as no showers or no hope for getting back to Earth. So over their time aboard Destiny, what recipes did the crew adapt to their limited foraging? Was it Darren Becker who enhanced the oxymoronic purple sweet potatoes with a recipe of his own making? Or from Lisa Park or Dr Inman? Was Dr Franklin a foodie with tons of recipes just hoping for those plants in hydroponics to sprout to prove his abilities? What recipes might Varro have from his Lucian Alliance upbringing?

Dr Rush's desire for solving the 9th chevron. Dr Rush didn't know Eli, but his recipe, his method to attain a desired end, the Dakaran Math puzzle, resulted in Eli solving that recipe.

All those buy-it, then build it yourself furniture have recipes for putting them together.

Speculate. Think traditional or out of the box. Throw out your ideas - see if we can start some discussion and inspire an end result of fan art, or drabble or music video, icons, whatever ...

This challenge is due Wednesday, Jan 23rd at midnight in your time zone.

Title: Meet me in St. Louis
Author/ Artist: Shenandoah Risu
Content Flags: sentient ship, nudity
Characters: Everett Young, Destiny, Tamara Johansen, other characters
Word Count: 11,300
Excerpt: "Meet me in St. Louis, Louis, meet me at the fair...".
Author's Notes: Written for the journeystory multi-fandom Big!Bang 2012/ 2013
In the Stargate Universe episode "Gauntlet" (SGU 2-20) Eli Wallace convinces Everett Young that it should be him who remains out of the cryo pods. What if Young had stuck to his original plan?
Guiding the characters on a dangerous journey prompted by some fundamental questions of life and reasons to live, the inclusion of the ancient zen koans was a revelation in itself, as I wrote this story, and one ofter the other, the zen koans fell into place.
This story is dedicated to all those who miss Destiny and wanted to know more about her. It is part of the Sentient Ship series . The stories "Odi et Amo" and "True Purpose" are prequels to this one but it can be read independently.
Thanks to my betas, and to nickygabriel for organizing this Big!Bang. And most of all, thanks to the wonderful actors and talented writers of Stargate Universe who have made those characters so real for me. The companion artwork is at the end of the story and here.

Meet me in St. Louis

Happy Holidays everyone!

What if refers to making a decision that changes what the character might do for a job, or a date, or whatever you can think of. An alternate reality. Take what you know of the SGU characters and guest stars and give them an alternative life. You can make a video, graphics, comic strip, drabbles, one-sentence blurbs or whole stories if you wish. Pretty much anything and everything is up in the air.

As an example: what if Dale Volker didn't turn around when approaching Lisa Park in the infirmary with his small bundle of flowers? What if Brody wasn't an engineer and instead became a NASCAR driver or mechanic, what if TJ was the newest doctor on Grey's Anatomy, or Nicholas Rush was a world renowned pianist? Would these people dream of a different life for themselves, other adventures? Play the what if game with SGU.

String together a series of what ifs and how they impact different characters. The main thing is HAVE FUN!

To give everyone a chance to enjoy the holidays, this challenge will be due on Monday, January 7th, 2013 at midnight in your time zone. That gives everyone a chance to think of some good stuff. Hopefully, it might spark some interesting ideas and comment chatter.
